At Lockwood, we’re constantly thinking about our next step and ways we can refine our metaverse. In particular, our in-game events are something the team spend an incredible amount of time thinking about.

Why do we focus so much on these moments? Well as a recent Newzoo report explained — in-game events involving partners, artists or trends from the physical world are a powerful way of attracting people who may not have considered games previously. They function as the perfect way to introduce people to the metaverse — giving them a familiar point of entry to familiarise themselves with our virtual world.

So, when it came to planning our upcoming in-game events, revisiting some of our previous escapades was a great place to start. Our world allows players to travel far and wide beyond the realms of their everyday realities — our events showcase how. The metaverse we’re so proud of now is defined by the experiences we share in-game, as well as those outside the digital world.

Looking back on our past events is not only a celebration of the amazing things they will help us achieve in the future, but also serves as a timely reminder of what we have accomplished up to this point. So strap in for a taste of Lockwood’s present and future — through the lense of our exciting past!

Coast 2 Coast

This event had it all. Returning fan-favourite characters, breathtaking backdrops, and parties. Endless parties! As Avakin has developed, creating characters that users feel connected to has become crucial to a metaverse that feels alive. Nadia Fox is one such character. Her first appearance in early 2020 took users on a journey across Europe. In 2021, Nadia set off on an epic road trip across the US. This was augmented by creating Nadia as a real influencer on social media; sharing her road trip pics, teasing parties, revealing new stops week on week. In just a few short posts, Nadia has drawn more than 25,000 followers on Instagram alone, with followers sharing selfies, copying her style and engaging on a deeper level than previous events. These moments, when our universe steps beyond its limits and gains life elsewhere with new communities on new platforms, are highlights for us all.

Carnival time!

The feelgood factor continues — this time we look back at our Carnival event from earlier this year. Call us greedy, but we just couldn’t decide between the colour and vibrance of Carnival in Rio and the stunning elegance of a Venetian backdrop. So we chose both! And there’s no doubt the event will live long in the memories of our metaverse for years to come.

Ensuring our Carnival content was authentic was so important to us, we took extra steps to implement the smallest details that were included to execute this. We added a wide selection of musical instruments that players could purchase for the event in Rio, not just to ramp up the noise and party atmosphere but recreating the culturally accurate events for both locations was vital to the story we wanted to tell. Millions of tunes were played. New art that wouldn’t exist without the players picking up their digital instruments.

The metaverse always looks to act as a fully immersive and limitless alternative to the physical world. During the time of the event though, the physical world was at a standstill due to Covid-19. But the metaverse transcended that barrier, giving our community the carnival experience they still craved.

Host your own party

Our commitment to creating unforgettable events doesn’t end here. We also make it easy to allow players to host their own events and parties — using their apartments and social groups to create stunning moments that no one else will want to miss out on. And we don’t require a convoluted code or an arcane series of steps to share these events with your friends — a single link is all they need to come along. So whether you want to host your very own karaoke night or show off your latest fashion purchases to an intimate audience — we make it easy for you to put your own stamp on our shared metaverse.

Which of these past events was your favourite? Or have we missed a classic moment you think we should have covered? Either way, let us know on Twitter, Facebook or drop us a message on Instagram! We can’t wait to hear from you!
